REGION DESCRIPTION
The city of Greater Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Not only is Victoria the largest urban area on Vancouver Island, but also boasts being the provincial capital of British Columbia.
With an estimated population of around 80,000 in the city of Victoria, the area also consists of thirteen municipalities. These municipalities combined forms the Capital Regional District (CRD) or Greater Victoria which estimates its population at over 330,000 people and ranks itself as the fifteenth largest metropolitan area in Canada.
Transit District Facts
Victoria Regional Transit System is the sole public transit provider for the CRD and the communities of Sydney, and Sooke. This system now serves approximately 312,000 people and operates in a 400-square-kilometer area.
Fleet Size
The peak fleet in operation is 178 buses operating on 36 conventional routes, and 40 vans providing custom door-to-door service for people who cannot ride the conventional routes.

Both the urban are of Victoria and the CRD saw an increase in population in the five years from 2001 to 2006. The Victoria area saw a rise in population when it hit an estimated 78,057 in 2006 a five year increase of 5.3%. Up from that a little was the growth of the CRD which moved up from 311,902 people to 330,088 an increase of 5.8%.
